Taking the set and the plate down

The TV comes off the rails first, with a second person supporting it. The plate then comes off, the bolts are backed out of the studs, and the mount is bagged with its hardware. A pre-1978 painted wall is handled with a vacuum at the hole and a quick clean-up afterward.

What to do with the old holes

Four to eight small holes are the usual leftover. A small filler and a touch of paint hide them on drywall; plaster needs a patching compound in coats. Repainting is a painter's job. In a rental the lease decides how holes are patched at move-out.

Moving to another wall or room

The new wall gets the same checks as any wall — a probe hole, a tape outline, the studs. A move from a drywall room to a stone or plaster wall changes the hardware and the estimator's add. Cables are re-run to the new outlet, and an old raceway comes off with the TV.

Re-hanging a TV that was mounted elsewhere

A mount reused on a new wall is checked for rating, wear and the match to the TV. A bracket that has lost its locking screw or shows a bent rail is replaced. The estimator's dismount add is $40–$80, and a new mount, if needed, is the supplied-mount option.

About $40–$80 in the estimator for the take-down, in addition to the mount on the new wall.

Who patches the holes?

Small holes are filled with a compound; a repaint is a painter's job, and in a rental the lease decides who patches at move-out.
